UnionStahl promotes sustainability with Green Heavy Plates

Steel is and will remain an indispensable resource for a wide range of industries. Every day, large quantities of this valuable material are used in the construction industry, mechanical engineering, infrastructure projects or in wind farms which play an important role in the energy transition. As a leading trading house and service center for flat steel products, UnionStahl GmbH is an important steel supplier in Germany and Europe supporting the transformation of the steel sector towards more sustainable concepts. With the cooperation agreement now signed, the independent trading company ensures that their customers have access to plates made from CO2-reduced steel for its customers.

Founded in Duisburg, Germany, in 2002, UnionStahl is now an independent full-range supplier with sales offices and representatives in most European countries and in key markets outside Europe, offering a wide range of processing steps in addition to heavy plates. Sustainable concepts already play an important role in the company. Resource-conserving and environmentally friendly working methods, such as the expansion of photovoltaic systems and the promotion of electric cars as company vehicles, go hand in hand with a careful selection of suppliers who are subject to strict environmental regulations and enable short transport routes. As an established partner, Ilsenburger Grobblech has been working with UnionStahl for many years. This partnership will soon be extended to include sustainable products.

 

With this cooperation agreement, UnionStahl will expand its range of green steel plates in the near future. As a Salzgitter AG company, Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH will soon be receiving CO2-reduced slabs from the SALCOS® (Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking) transformation program, which aims to ensure virtually CO2-free steel production by 2033. In addition, CO2-reduced steel is already available via the so-called Peiner route. With this agreement, UnionStahl not only confirms its sustainable orientation, but also its long-term cooperation with Ilsenburger Grobblech.
