For machines that don't quit
BRINAR® abrasion-resistant steels are built for the extreme. They guarantee a long service life, even under challenging wear conditions, and impress with optimum processing properties. Thanks to state-of-the-art plant technology, BRINAR® has never been better, even after more than 25 years of product development, and can provide an outstanding-quality product to meet every requirement.
The right hardness for any requirement
Every application has its own specific requirements for hardness and abrasion resistance. Whether for mining or construction machinery, the various BRINAR® steels provide high-quality solutions for all wear requirements.
Thanks to their optimal chemical composition, these abrasion-resistant steels offer excellent processing properties and consistently high hardness and toughness. Due to their reduced carbon content, BRINAR® steels can be processed at lower preheating temperatures, offering optimum formability and high toughness.
State-of-the-art process technology for maximum quality
At the heart of our heat treatment line is the state-of-the-art multifunctional quench, which came into operation in 2021. Water distribution tailored specifically to each plate ensures consistently high quality. To achieve a high-quality, scale-free surface, the plates undergo pre-blasting prior to heat treatment. They are then heated in an energy-efficient furnace in a nitrogen atmosphere, which prevents renewed scaling and ensures a homogeneous surface. Tempering takes place in the multifunctional quench, where further microstructural properties are adjusted using defined cooling strategies.
Reliability under the toughest conditions
BRINAR® steels provide effective solutions for all wear requirements. Thanks to their high resistance to wear, they are particularly well-suited to demanding applications, such as in the mining and construction industries, and in the manufacture of specialised recycling machinery. CO2-reduced steel for a green future
Steel impresses not only as a solid building material, but also due to its high level of flexibility. It is also ideal for sustainable recycling as it is durable, reusable and 100% recyclable. Heavy plates produced from CO2-reduced slabs effectively contribute to decarbonising value chains and achieving sustainability goals.
The production of CO2-reduced green steel using the electric arc furnace route is already possible with SALCOS®. Using green electricity from wind power and 100% scrap recycling enables SALCOS® heavy plate to achieve a CO₂ value of just 524 kg CO₂eq per tonne. We are currently seeking certification in accordance with the Low Emission Steel Standard. We are using an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to provide transparent information on the environmental impact of heavy plate made from scrap-based electrical steel.
