The right hardness for any requirement

Every application has its own specific requirements for hardness and abrasion resistance. Whether for mining or construction machinery, the various BRINAR® steels provide high-quality solutions for all wear requirements.

Thanks to their optimal chemical composition, these abrasion-resistant steels offer excellent processing properties and consistently high hardness and toughness. Due to their reduced carbon content, BRINAR® steels can be processed at lower preheating temperatures, offering optimum formability and high toughness.

State-of-the-art process technology for maximum quality

At the heart of our heat treatment line is the state-of-the-art multifunctional quench, which came into operation in 2021. Water distribution tailored specifically to each plate ensures consistently high quality. To achieve a high-quality, scale-free surface, the plates undergo pre-blasting prior to heat treatment. They are then heated in an energy-efficient furnace in a nitrogen atmosphere, which prevents renewed scaling and ensures a homogeneous surface. Tempering takes place in the multifunctional quench, where further microstructural properties are adjusted using defined cooling strategies.

Reliability under the toughest conditions

BRINAR® steels provide effective solutions for all wear requirements. Thanks to their high resistance to wear, they are particularly well-suited to demanding applications, such as in the mining and construction industries, and in the manufacture of specialised recycling machinery. Looking for the right grade for your application? You will find some application examples here. Our specialists will be happy to advise you on your specific project.

Dipper Shovel

BRINAR® is the answer to sliding and impact wear, where durable materials are crucial for performance. Different steel grades from BRINAR® 400 to BRINAR® 500 are used in the side cutting edges, cutting edge or base of the excavator bucket, depending on the area of application and the product-specific requirements of the bucket design.

Dump Truck

In mining, the highly durable BRINAR® can handle the most challenging tasks. This special steel strengthens the side and front walls, as well as the base plates, of solid transport skips used in mining under the toughest conditions, ensuring outstanding productivity thanks to its longer service life. BRINAR® therefore minimises maintenance and downtime costs over a long period of use.

Rock Crusehr

High forces act on the material where rocks and stones are crushed. Depending on the type of crusher and its wear requirements, different grades of abrasion-resistant BRINAR® are used. The appropriate grade depends on the abrasion resistance required and the size of the material to be crushed. BRINAR® ensures the plant has a long service life thanks to its consistently high hardness and toughness.

Drill

Drills used for the dry rotary drilling method, such as 'kell drilling', can penetrate a wide variety of soil and rock types. This means they are exposed to demanding wear conditions. Thanks to its long service life and minimised maintenance and downtime costs, abrasion-resistant BRINAR® steel ensures high productivity.

CO2-reduced steel for a green future

Steel impresses not only as a solid building material, but also due to its high level of flexibility. It is also ideal for sustainable recycling as it is durable, reusable and 100% recyclable. Heavy plates produced from CO2-reduced slabs effectively contribute to decarbonising value chains and achieving sustainability goals.
The production of CO2-reduced green steel using the electric arc furnace route is already possible with SALCOS®. Using green electricity from wind power and 100% scrap recycling enables SALCOS® heavy plate to achieve a CO₂ value of just 524 kg CO₂eq per tonne. We are currently seeking certification in accordance with the Low Emission Steel Standard. We are using an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to provide transparent information on the environmental impact of heavy plate made from scrap-based electrical steel.
