Steel is the foundation of the economy. Every day, large quantities of this valuable material are used for infrastructure projects, the construction industry, mechanical engineering and energy infrastructure. As one of the leading trading companies for heavy plate and shipbuilding steel, UnionStahl Nord GmbH supports the decarbonisation of the economy with CO2-reduced steel. With the cooperation agreement now concluded, the independent trading company has secured the opportunity to purchase plates with a low CO2 footprint from Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH.

When it comes to heavy plate and shipbuilding steel, UnionStahl Nord GmbH is one of the leading partners in this field. As a member of the UnionStahl Group with sites in Bremen and Isernhagen, the company specialises in trading and processing steel plates and profiles. With the cooperation agreement now concluded, UnionStahl Nord is expanding its range to include CO2-reduced heavy plates and is making a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of value chains. With the emission-reduced heavy plates from Ilsenburger Grobblech, we support the sustainability goals of our customers and make a significant contribution to the reduction of Scope 3 emissions," says Andreas Breitmoser (Managing Director of UnionStahl Nord GmbH), underlining the expansion of the portfolio.
As a Salzgitter AG company, Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH will soon be purchasing CO2-reduced slabs from the SALCOS® transformation programme, which aims to ensure virtually CO2-free steel production by 2033. In addition, SALCOS® green steel is already available via the Peiner route from scrap-based electrical steel. „We are already supporting our customers' decarbonisation strategies with CO2-reduced heavy plate and will be expanding this product range in the future," says Tony Dachner, Sales Manager for the DACH region at Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH.
