Maximum supply assurance - own scheduled trains strengthen the supply chain from rail to port

17.12.2024 | Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH

For Ilsenburger Grobblech, rail is the most important mode of transport for supplying our customers. It enables us to deliver large quantities of heavy plate to our customers and transport it to the ports. To ensure reliable rail transport, we trust strong partners such as our sister company Verkehrsbetriebe Peine-Salzgitter GmbH (VPS) and regional inland and seaports. Our own regular trains and project-related special trains ensure the resilience of the supply chain.

A reliable rail connection to a port is crucial, especially for the transport of the very long plates that are increasingly used in the wind energy sector. Road transport is not an alternative for these quantities and dimensions. For the current wind tower projects, we have our own special wagons and fixed regular trains operated by VPS to the port of Brake.

The seaport of Brake is located around 26 kilometres upstream of the Weser estuary and is a multifunctional specialist port focusing on steel and project cargo as well as wind energy components. Up to 2,000 tonnes of ILG quality sheet metal are loaded here every week, making the port and terminal operator J. Müller an important partner in our supply chain. In addition to the rail connection, we also have the option of reaching the port via our own inland port in Salzgitter, thus ensuring independence from individual transport routes.

Close cooperation with competent partners and the implementation of performance-oriented improvement measures ensure a resilient supply chain in the interest of the customer and provide a high degree of supply assurance and flexibility.
