Vacuum traverse ensures efficient handling of heavy plates

The seaport of Brake is a crucial hub in the logistics chain for shipping our heavy plates. To load the plates at the port more quickly and efficiently, our logistics partner, J. Müller Weser GmbH & Co. KG has been using a vacuum traverse for heavy plates measuring from 15 meters in length for a year now. This investment saves time during loading, increases wagon capacity and eliminates the need for wooden spacers for transportation and storage.

The wind energy sector uses particularly long and heavy plates, which were previously handled in the Brake seaport using magnetic technology and, in some cases, with several forklifts in tandem. To improve performance, the RISE program demonstrated the advantages of loading with a vacuum traverse. J. Müller's investment in this new lifting technology makes handling in the Port of Brake more efficient and higher quality. It also ensures better utilization of wagons and reduced loading times for Ilsenburger Grobblech.
Since November 2024, the vacuum traverse has been used to handle heavy plates between 15 and 25 meters. This technology prevents plate mix-ups and damage caused by forks. For J. Müller, optimized handling and minimized susceptibility to errors lead to more efficient processes. Ilsenburger Grobblech now makes optimum use of the wagons and saves wood during transport and storage, which benefits the environment. Fewer errors, faster loading, and greater rail shipping capacity contribute to better overall delivery performance and greater customer satisfaction.
