Haseltal Bridge in Suhl (Germany)
The
Haseltal Bridge is one of the most interesting
bridge projects in recent years. With a length of 845 m and a maximum height of
82 m it spans the Haseltal Valley directly at the Suhl motorway junction. This bridge not only
has a gateway function for the town of Suhl, but
also offers the possibility among other things of crossing the railway line to Erfurt and a trade park
that is listed as a historic monument. Besides its height and length, the combined effect of the superstructure and piers is imposing. Several piers, at a distance of up to 175 m from one another, divide the bridge into eight individual segments, covering a total area of approximately 24,300 m² in total. The superstructure has an overall height of 5 m. It is crowned by a non-prestressed, reinforced bridge floor made of concrete, which is erected on top of a single-cell steel box girder.
